  • The Americans with Disabilities Act – This document contains the text of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. It includes all titles, including the provisionslawbooks regarding public transportation.

  • Part 37--Transportation Services for Individuals with Disabilities  Part 37 Department of Transportation regulations carry out the intent of the Americans with Disabilities Act specific to public transportation services provided by public and private entities. These regulations address vehicle acquisition requirements and service criteria for all modalities, fixed route and demand-responsive, of public transportation, including ADA complementary paratransit.

  • Part 38--Accessibility Specifications for Transportation Vehicles - Part 38 Department of Transportation regulations carry out the intent of the Americans with Disabilities Act specific to the structural accessibility standards for public transportation vehicles used by public and private entities. Design specifications for rail and non-rail vehicles, including coordination of vehicles with platforms, lifts and ramps, securements, and interior circulation/maneuvering are covered in this part.

  • Part 27--Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability in Programs and Activities Receiving or Benefitting From Federal Financial Assistance – This document contains regulations pertaining to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act as it applies to transportation.

  • Part 382 Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability in Air Travel – Part 382 regulations carry out the intent of the Air Carrier Access Act of 1986, as amended. This rule prohibits both U.S. and foreign carriers from discriminating against passengers on the basis of disability; requires carriers to make aircraft, other facilities, and services accessible; and requires carriers to take steps to accommodate passengers with a disability.
  • ADA Standards for Transportation Facilities – These standards apply to the construction and alteration of transportation facilities covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  They became effective November 29, 2006.  The Departmentof Transportation (DOT) adopted these standards based on updated guidelines issued by the Access Board.

  • Preamble--Transportation for Individuals with Disabilities [September 6, 1991] - This portion of the preamble discusses the basis and purpose of Part 37. It also responds to comments on the Department's notice of proposed rulemaking on this subject issued April 4, 1991 (56 FR 13856) and highlights provisions in part 38; the Department's promulgation of the accessible vehicle specifications developed by the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board.
